Job Description
We are seeking a Scientist II who is passionate about developing complex in vitro microphysiological organ-on-chip systems (MPS) and bioprinted models for drug discovery and development. In this role, the scientist will perform hands-on experimentation and provide support to advance the team’s biofabrication efforts.
This position is based on-site in Cambridge, MA, supporting day-to-day laboratory workflows and assisting with model development within a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the biofabrication and maintenance of microphysiological systems and bioprinted models.
Perform routine mammalian cell culture while maintaining a high level of aseptic technique.
Prepare and handle hydrogels/ECM for use in 3D culture (MPS and bioprinted) platforms.
Assist in immunofluorescence staining, imaging, and analysis workflows.
Reconstitute, aliquot, and prepare reagents and media.
Execute multi-step experimental protocols and workflows.
Document experimental procedures, observations, and results in electronic lab notebook.
Assist with inventory management, ordering, and general lab maintenance.
Support both general and project-specific laboratory operations as project needs evolve.
Collaborate across different functional teams/locations.
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree preferred. (B.S./B.A. in Bioengineering, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Cell & Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related field with minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or Master’s Degree)
Required Experience and Skills
Minimum of 2 years of experience in mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique.
Experience preparing and handling biomaterials or hydrogels for 3D culture applications.
Experience working with MPS models, bioprinted platforms, or other 3D cell culture technologies.
Familiarity with basic microscopy techniques for assessing cell health and experimental progress.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and accurate documentation practices.
Demonstrated ability to execute experimental protocols and work with collaborators.
Ability to work on-site, follow established protocols, and meet deadlines.
Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and eager to learn new workflows.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience with stem cell culture or differentiation workflows.
Experience with stem cell-derived organoid models.
Experience working with MIMETAS organ-on-chip, or similar high throughput, platform.
Experience working in pharmaceutical drug discovery or development.
Data analysis experience using Matlab, R, and/or Python.
Experience with nucleofection.
