Job Description: The Rolando Lab (https://sites.google.com/view/rolandolab/) studies the effects of environmental stress on the function of plant and soil microbiomes. They are currently seeking an undergraduate researcher to assist with wet lab, and potential greenhouse and field work at the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Davie. Duties will vary depending on the lab’s need, but would include:- Conducting soil and plant nucleic acid extractions (DNA/RNA), and PCR/qPCR.
- Setting up and maintaining greenhouse/mesocosm experiments.
- Performing chemical and nutrient analyses of plant, porewater, and soil samples.
- Running bioinformatic pipelines for soil and plant microbiome research (meta-barcoding).
$15/ hour
Minimum Requirements:A student enrolled at a local college/ university and interested in performing scientific research. The position is part-time at 10 hours a week.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference given to students in their first 2 years of college.
