Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Stretch Press Operator A, to join our Fabrication team in Auburn, Washington.

As a Stretch Press Operator A, you will be an integral part of our manufacturing process. You will utilize your expertise to set up and operate stretch presses that form various materials to precise specifications. Your role will involve the technical aspects of operating the machinery and ensuring that each setup is executed flawlessly to meet quality requirements. You will engage in hands-on tasks such as marking location points, securing forming dies, and adjusting machine parameters to achieve optimal results. Your attention to detail will be essential as you monitor the forming process, check parts for compliance, and make necessary adjustments to maintain high standards. Collaboration with team members and lower-graded employees will be key as you share your knowledge and assist in training, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Completely set up, operate, and adjust all types and sizes of stretch presses and their accessories to properly stretch form sheet stock, plate stock, and extrusions to meet quality requirements and specifications.

  • Mark location points as indicated by dies and locate, secure, and align forming dies on the press bed.

  • Determine and set proper pressure, speed of travel, and stops using trial and error, stretch charts, or manufacturing process information.

  • Select and apply proper lubricants to dies and maintain records of various setups for future use.

  • Perform stretch forming involving reverse and double curvature contours using various drawing methods and independent ram action.

  • Check formed parts using prints, checking fixtures, templates, or forming dies to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Remove folds and wrinkles from formed parts using hand and power tools, and trim parts after locating proper trim lines.

  • Set up or check the setup for lower-graded employees, including checking first parts and outlining operational sequences.

  • Obtain work packages and review work orders to determine tasks, ensuring prior operations are completed and correct materials are issued.

  • Perform safety checks on machines, ensuring the work area is clear of obstacles and safety features are properly attached.

  • Move heavy materials and tools to the work area using stackers or overhead cranes, and select machine accessories and holding devices.

  • Load and secure forming dies on the press, making adjustments per setup notes and tooling usage instructions.

  • Run the press cycle, ensuring parts are free from defects before forming, and check parts periodically for alignment and necessary adjustments.

  • Perform first part checks and completed job checks to ensure compliance with drawings and submit jobs for inspection.

  • Perform tool tryouts on new and reworked tools, clean parts, equipment, and tools as required, and consult with engineering, planning, inspection, or customers on process or job-related issues.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate is required to provide support to other locations based on business needs and will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
