About the Role: Para Educator: Parents as Teachers

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a proven home visiting program designed to help caregivers enhance their understanding of early childhood development and improve parenting practices. It also focuses on early detection of developmental delays and connecting families to necessary services. The PAT program aims to prevent child abuse and neglect, boost children's readiness for school, and improve overall family health and well-being. PAT collaborates with states, territories, and tribal entities to develop and implement home-visiting programs that promote the health and well-being of families and young children.

The role involves engaging in community and family education, advocating for social changes, and providing support for prevention initiatives, advisory councils, and educational efforts. These prevention activities are relationship-focused and take place in community settings or family homes, supporting a diverse range of groups and ages. This may include helping families access resources and support to build resilience and achieve the goals of specific programs.

 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning, organizing, logistically supporting, implementing, and attending education, coalition, and/or advisory council events and outreach, as assigned.
  • Assist in recruiting through networking with other coalition and agencies, volunteers, advisory council/coalition members, and/or family participants for community and educational activities.
  • Teach prevention and/or parenting curriculum and/or participate in the speakers’ bureau.
  • Participate in prevention advocacy, messaging, and information dissemination. May participate in fundraising and special events planning and implementation.
  • Assist in evaluation efforts, including distributing and collecting community knowledge, customer satisfaction, and pre/post-test surveys.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other community-based groups in Weld County and participate in cross-agency activities, as assigned.
  • May perform meeting moderation and, note-taking functions, and other administrative functions in support of the program’s coalition and education activities.
  • May engage in regular home and community visits to provide individualized education based on the needs of the customer.
  • May complete necessary screening, assessments, and intake components associated with services and activities.
  • May be required to complete, file, and maintain hard copy and electronic paperwork relevant to the program.
  • Participate in internal, community, and interagency meetings and training, as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university with coursework in early childhoo
