Job Description

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an experienced general Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician to join our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation practice at Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL, located in the west suburbs of Chicago. This role would also collaborate with the inpatient rehabilitation consulting program for Northwestern Medicine’s Woodstock Hospital in Woodstock, IL. Highlights of the role include:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, leadership of the consultant provider team with responsibility for referral partnership relationships and quality improvement outcomes for consulting services
  • Providing timely responses to Physical Medicine & Rehab referrals with initial recommendations around acute rehab
  • Conducting on-site and virtual patient consultation visits to assess patients for rehabilitation needs to determine appropriate rehab level of care
  • Determining if a patient is likely to benefit from intensive, coordinated rehabilitation services and meets the criteria for inpatient rehabilitation
  • Ensuring smooth transitions to post-hospital care, including a likely and realistic discharge plan from an IRF as needed
  • Collaborating with referring physicians to provide expertise and guidance to address the functional and psychosocial needs of their patients
  • Engaging with insurance companies, including conducting Peer-to-Peer reviews in support of the prior authorization process
  • Participating in Utilization Management, Quality, and Safety
    • Policy & Compliance Management to help create and enforce policies and adherence
    • Case Management, Quality, and CDI to improved resource use and quality initiatives (discharge to home)
  • Other essential qualities and skills include
    • Technically to be proficient with Epic EMR and telehealth platforms
    • Administratively to be detail-oriented, organized
    • Contributing in continuous process improvement
  • Included in weekend call rotation for IP coverage
  • Other duties as assigned by CMO

Highlights of the practice include:

  • Join a team of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation providers (including NM employed physicians and APPs) providing inpatient services, outpatient clinics, procedures, and consult services
  • Prosthetics and orthotics clinic on-site at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Specialty programs focused on stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, pediatric, orthopaedic/musculoskeletal, pain and neuromuscular disorders
  • Opportunity to work with Residents 

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in PM&R by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR)
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice
  • Strong communication, leadership, and team collaboration skills
  • Experience in inpatient rehabilitation or consultative services preferred
  • Seven years or greater post residency/fellowship experience demonstrating progre
