Summary of Job Duties:

Work will focus on the intersection of circular bioeconomy and food safety engineering. The selected candidate will:

1. Perform sustainability (life cycle analysis and techno-economic) analysis of current and alternative/novel food safety interventions at multiple points in the food system. The current focus is on low-moisture food systems such as wheat flour, dried apples, and almonds.

2. Integrate the sustainability analysis with microbial risk assessment models.

3. Apply circular bioeconomy concepts for food systems.

4. Evaluate novel food safety interventions such as radiofrequency processing for improving safety
of low moisture foods.

5. Maintain the food safety lab.

6. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

7. Assist in developing graduate level courses in circular bioeconomy and food safety engineering.

8. Assist in writing grants to support the research program in the intersection of circular
bioeconomy and food safety engineering.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. degree in one of the following disciplines: Biosystems/Agricultural/Biosystems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, or Food Science & Technology or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have strong fundamental knowledge in food engineering and sustainability concepts

Good working knowledge of statistical analysis
