The Positions
Clemson University’s College of Education invites applications for multiple (5) full-time (9 month) open-rank tenured and tenure-track faculty positions for a cluster hire in Learning Sciences with research expertise in one or more of the following specialties: Educational Data Science and Analytics, AI and Education, and Advanced Quantitative Research Methods, Measurement and/or Evaluation. Clemson seeks dynamic and innovative scholars who will contribute to a growing community of scholars focused on the intersection of technology, data science, education, and educational research and evaluation. Finalists may be considered for appointment as a Eugene T. Moore Distinguished or Endowed Professor.
After ten years of steady growth, the Learning Sciences program in the Department of Education and Human Development (EHD) in Clemson University’s College of Education is emerging as a national leader in educational psychology-applied developmental science and quantitative research, measurement and evaluation. The College’s interdisciplinary faculty are significantly contributing to the fields of education and learning. Clemson is seeking colleagues to strengthen our program in the areas of educational applications of emerging technologies, and advanced quantitative methods and evaluation.
The Department of Educational and Human Development is home to the College’s Quantitative Clinic and future home to a statewide center for educational research and evaluation. The current clinic provides statistical and methodological support to faculty and graduate students, including statistical consulting services, methodological training, opportunities for research collaborations, and measurement and evaluation services. Some faculty in this cluster hire will contribute to expanding the leadership, services, and impact of the College’s Quantitative Clinic.
To grow the College’s capacity to pursue a robust program of research in the field of Learning Sciences, the College endeavors to recruit a team and/or individual faculty to complement existing faculty expertise in the department and College, including:
- Open Rank Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty in Learning Analytics, Data Science in Education, Critical Machine Learning and AI and Education (2 positions)
- Open Rank Tenure/Tenure Track in Advanced Quantitative Methodology
- Open Rank Tenure/Tenure Track Faculty in Educational Measurement
- Open Rank Tenure/Tenure Track in Educational Evaluation
The University and College support dual career hires, relocation expenses, and generous start-up packages. The physical location of this position is Clemson, South Carolina; however, the position may require travel from time to time.
Responsibilities:
- RESEARCH: Lead a robust, externally funded program of research that advances knowledge in educational data science, machine learning, AI applications in education, and/or advanced quantitative, measurement or evaluation methodologies. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on research that transforms learning environments.
- TEACHING: Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in data science in education, AI in education, learning analytics, advanced statistical methods, assessment, psychometrics, or related topics. Develop related new curricula that reflect emerging trends in education.
- SERVICE: Provide service to the department, college, and university, as well as to professional organizations. Engage in outreach to industry, government, nonprofits, PK-20 education partners and/or community stakeholders, with a focus on leveraging data and technology to improve learning outcomes and/or well-being.
- MENTORSHIP: Supervise Ph.D. students in the Learning Sciences and mentor graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early career faculty, particularly those involved in data-intensive research projects. Foster a supportive environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
