The Role

We are looking for a customer service-oriented Pharmacy Associate. Our current pharmacy team provides top-notch client and patient care and they are dependable and have a passion for their job. Our full-service hospital has a fully functioning pharmacy open 7 days a week for our patients' needs. While you will be working in a veterinary hospital environment, you will not be expected to work hands-on with animals. We require that you are comfortable around animals and medical procedures and it’s great if you own some pets too! Who doesn’t love employee discounts for their pets? We offer that too.

As a Pharmacy Associate, you will:

• Prepare prescriptions accurately and record prescription details in medical records
• Take prescription refill requests made via phone, fax, or in person, obtain veterinarian approval, and communicate prescription refill status to clients
• Communicate with clients via email, phone, text and in-person regarding prescription status or patient information
• Forward prescriptions to outside retail pharmacies when necessary
• Dispense medications to clients, explain use and methods to administer medications
• Dispense and distribute medications and provide drug information to the hospital staff
• Ensure the hospital is following current regulations regarding the labeling and dispensing of medications
• Maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies
• Complete Adverse Reaction Reports
• Track controlled drugs in compliance with state and federal laws
• Other duties as assigned

Schedule:  This position is a Full Time (40 hours per week) role. The Veterinary Hospital is open 7 days a week. Shifts are scheduled in a 4/10 format.

Requirements

 Qualifications

• Current pharmacy license in CA preferred
• Fluency in Spanish speaking and writing is a plus
• High School Diploma, High School Proficiency Diploma, or General Education Diploma
• Proficiency in the English language (written and oral)
• Good math skills, including dosage calculations (willing to train compounding calculations.)
• Previous experience with excellent customer service
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Solid knowledge of basic human drugs (brand names and generic names) we will train you on animal-specific medications
• Previous veterinary experience as a Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Technician, or Veterinary Pharmacy Technician preferred
