Position Overview:

The Philanthropy Officer III will manage and be responsible for driving the overall performance of a portfolio of annual giving prospects. Collaborate with the local philanthropy team, physicians, senior leaders and philanthropy leadership to identify, cultivate, steward and solicit donors and prospects with a focus on donor retention and acquisition. Also manage a portfolio of physician philanthropy partners with the goal of educating physician partners, to engage and support philanthropy at Sutter Health. Expected to achieve revenue and cost of funds goals through prudent budget management and active revenue-based strategies to fully engage the community in supporting the mission of Sutter Health.

Job Description:

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Annual Gift Management
• Develops and coordinates the annual gifts program for the local geography. Works with senior philanthropy leadership to identify and qualify annual gift prospects and to organize a team to create and implement gift strategies for all prospects with capacity to make significant gifts.
• Participates in and reports out at gift management meetings where gift strategies are created and reviewed on an ongoing basis, and proactively builds a pipeline of prospects. Collaborate with other team members in activities that support the team's work and does not promote an internally competitive environment. Produces benchmark reports on giving that self-evaluates the SGO's progress, direction and outcomes.
• Supports philanthropy leadership and with donor strategy briefs, research support, and donor outreach and involvement. Facilitates opportunities for interaction with prospects and philanthropy senior leadership, as well as other key stakeholders.
• Participates in (typically in concert with others) and increases revenue from multi-million dollar gift solicitations and/or transformative gifts.
• Portfolio Management
• Responsible for advancing an assigned portfolio of approximately 100+ high-capacity prospects and donors. Such efforts include successful identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to meet or exceed the organization's funding goals. Responsibility includes securing a specific level of fundraising revenue for the organization as determined by senior philanthropy leadership.
• Collaborates with senior philanthropy leadership and the local fundraising teams to effectively raise major gifts directly related to the priorities of the organization and the personal wishes of the donor. Responsible for devising and implementing effective, creative and often original strategies designed to interest, engage and secure a wide range of key major gift prospects.
• Works in consultation with the philanthropy leadership and key board, physician, volunteer leaders and contacts to discuss and devise individually tailored major gifts strategies. Manager mini campaigns and related committees.
• Establishes and maintains first-class working relationships with institution's department chairs and chiefs, physicians, researchers, management and other key personnel by establishing trust, respect and rapport within a professional working relationship. Acquires and demonstrates a firm grasp of wide range of medically related terms and critical issues facing the healthcare profession.
• Collaborates in multiple instances of overlap with development colleagues (such as staff at other geographies, planned giving, foundation and corporate relations), to plan prospect management strategies and "move steps" that are coordinated and place prospect's best interest first, and to implement systemic individual stewardship strategies for annual or major gift donors.
• Works with philanthropy staff to create donor events and stewardship activities for identified high capacity donors. Responsible for implementing such plans as they relate to furthering the engagement and support of the donor base.
• Supports the broad work of the department as it relates to developing the overall donor base and increasing philanthropy support for the organization, and performs other duties as necessary.

EDUCATION:
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
5 years recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Travel throughout the region required, occasional evening and weekend work, and ability to adjust to other needs of the department.
