The Embedded Systems Team develops the first layers of software on the car, from communicating with hardware, building embedded software and firmware on RTOS, Linux or Android Devices, to moving large amounts of data up the software stack for Cruise Autonomous Vehicles. Staff Software Engineers are responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing sophisticated, highly scalable and low-latency software. 

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own and lead the cross-functional efforts to design, build, and implement Android software system for our Devices team that enables Fully Autonomous Delivery (Cargo). 

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Autonomously collaborate with passionate teammates across the company to define the system-level architecture for the implementation of our future generations of the Autonomous Delivery Devices (Cargo).

  • Partner with multi-functional teams across Delivery Business Unit, Product Management, Program Management, Safety and Systems Engineering and Test Engineering teams to deliver Embedded software for Autonomous delivery edge devices.

  • Initiate large projects with sophisticated design breaking them down to the right logical components to optimize software stack and support scalability

  • Improve and deliver reliable software through clear requirements, continuous integration development, automated testing, issue tracking, and code reviews

  • Mentor junior and senior engineers through technical guidance and delegation

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of professional experience building and shipping production Android based devices

  • Comfortable with Java and C++ programming for HW specific features

  • Knowledge of and experience applying software standard methodologies to develop reusable software applications

  • Experience delivering ambitious projects through incremental development

  • Applying and mentoring team members on software development standard methodologies.

 

Bonus Points:

  • Experience developing software experiences around hardware systems (automobiles, treadmills, IoT, etc.)

  • Experience working on SW close to HW and adapting drivers

  • Excited for the chance to work on new HW devices

  • Understanding of Kotlin and modern Android development not bound by technologies

  • Experience collaborating with resource constrained RTOS based systems and Firmware

  • BS degree in computer science or technical field

 

The salary range for this position is $161,500 - $237,500. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
