Your Mission
Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth. As a Senior II 3D Generalist Outsource Supervisor you will help our external artistic partners in creating beautiful 3D assets in a variety of different areas, including but not limited to environments, props and characters. Helping to take assets from conceptualization to final model completion. Your already established experience of being able to shift between the needs of several workflow pipelines will help to empower Hearthstone’s team to create the most engaging experience possible for our players.
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
Responsibilities:
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with both external and internal art teams to direct all aspects of our outsourced 3D pipeline. Provide timely and concise feedback throughout the process from initial planning to final polish and bug fixing across a variety of concurrent projects.
- Oversee individual aspects of the 3D pipeline, including modeling, rigging, animation, implementation, vfx and documentation for external art teams.
- Work closely with internal disciplines such as 2D, 3D, and tech art teams, as well as design, sound, engineering, to establish visual benchmarks, solve problems, and facilitate the review process with internal stakeholders.
- Propose creative briefs for animation direction across a variety of character tones and styles. Maintaining consistency across many concurrent animation assets while ensuring animations adhere to technical requirements specific to gameplay.
- Work closely with 2D, concept and illustration teams to ensure that assets produced by these teams are developed to support specific requirements of the 3D pipeline.
- Partner with production and art leadership to create a sustainable schedule, track and manage deadlines, and facilitate quick turnarounds.
- Utilize Unity to implement and finalize in-game art assets and address ongoing art requests and in-game bugs as they arise.
- Manage and train outsourcing supervisors within the 3D or VFX outsourcing supervision team to ensure optimum output across our projects.
- Maintain an excellent relationship with multiple vendors. Understand current vendor capacity in accordance with scope of work and provide resourcing solutions if necessary. Facilitate contract process for new vendors, or vendor renewals, accounting for ongoing requirements between game team and vendor.
- Address new challenges in a fast-paced development environment with constantly changing daily tasks.
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 12 years of experience as a 3D artist or animator with hands on experience in animation, rigging, modeling, and VFX development.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in a game development studio as a 3D artist and/or animator with hands on experience in animation, rigging, modeling, and VFX development.
- Minimum 3 years of game engine experience (example: Unity).
- Minimum of 3 years as a director or lead on a 3D creative project
Knowledge & Skills
- Naturally curious and driven to solve problems when given unique bugs or tasks within a game engine environment.
- Ability to create and direct 3D assets that meet design and technical requirements to deliver an exceptional gameplay experience.
