This is an Application and Network Security-focused role. Design applications, platforms or services by translating core business requirements into comprehensive technical solutions, ensuring functional, performance, and reliability through hands-on system design, technical enablement, and strategic decision-making across platform, network, software, and cloud environments.
Key Roles and Responsibilities: Typical tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- System Design and Architecture: Design and create scalable, high-performance, and reliable system architectures and platforms.
- Requirements Analysis and Integration: Translate business needs into technical specifications and ensure seamless integration of system components.
- Technical Leadership and Collaboration: Provide guidance to development teams, align technical solutions with business objectives, and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Performance, Reliability, and Troubleshooting: Conduct performance and reliability analysis, and resolve system issues and bottlenecks.
- Documentation, Security, and Continuous Improvement: Maintain detailed system documentation, ensure security and compliance, and stay updated with industry trends for ongoing improvement.
- Network & Infrastructure Security: Operate and oversee security controls, continuously monitoring for threats and reducing risk through proactive assessments.
- Security Architecture & Modernization: Define and evolve secure architectures across applications, systems, and networks, continuously strengthening defenses against emerging threats.
- Policy, Compliance & Visibility: Enforce security policies, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide leadership with clear visibility into the organization’s security posture.
- Risk & Incident Management: Proactively identify security risks and lead incident response efforts to minimize operational, financial, and reputational impact.
- Enterprise Partnership & Enablement: Collaborate with IT, Legal, vendors, and business teams to embed security into solutions, provide expert guidance, and promote security best practices across the organization.
Job Contribution: An expert in their field, applying broad business knowledge and strategic insight surrounding emerging trends and technologies to solve complex problems and drive organizational results. Leads critical, high-impact projects and designs/implements innovative business strategies. Works with minimal oversight, frequently consulting senior leadership and influencing executive decisions. Serves as a mentor and assists others with challenging issues.

TCP Career Step Differentiator: Designs systems and platforms for very large complex projects for strategic clients and that have multiple system interdependencies. Must have a strong understanding of computers (hardware and OS), network, and software architecture.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired in Computer Science.
- 7+ years of related experience.
- Certification is required in some areas. At least one industry cert highly recommended: CISSP, CEH, CCIE Security, CompTIA Security+, and ISC2
Our Principal System Engineering, earn between $174,100 - 261,100. Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
