As an R&D Engineer you will design, analyze, & test new downhole technology systemsThis includes designing, assembling, and running custom test apparatus to evaluate critical components for the new system under developmentThe engineer will become a subject matter expert on rotor dynamics for the Artificial Lift product line and refine testing protocols and design practices pertaining to vibration for various sub-systems.    The Engineer will Lead and support projects working closely with testing services, procurement, and product experts to design, model, procure, build, test, and deploy innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will be innovative, detail-oriented, and possess a proven track record of successfully delivering engineering solutions.

Responsibilities of R&D Engineer: 

  • Develop test apparatus for critical components.  Design, assemble and operate custom test rigs to evaluate fundamental physics of new components and sub-systems with support from procurement and technicians. 
  • Perform structured analytic evaluation of test rig accuracy and repeatability. 
  • Complete vibration and rotor dynamic analysis on new designs evaluating static and dynamic behavior of mechanical system.  Complete and support system testing and analyze vibration data for components and full string testing
  • Run design of experiment testing to build knowledge of critical variable effects on centrifugal pump design.
  • Communicate directly with R&D groups, Field Service & Sales as well as customers.
  • Lead and support various innovative projects with strong focus on physics, mechanical engineering principles and rotor dynamics focus to address varying downhole conditions. 
  • Define advancements for design, analysis, and testing methods within area of expertise.
  • Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.

To be successful in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher with strong experience with mechanical design & test development.
  • Hands-on experience with rotor dynamic analysis, vibration testing, and balancing. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.  
  • Experience working directly with customers and regional personnel to solve customer challenges, identify failure modes, and develop solutions 
  • Strong numerical modeling experience and modeling fluid and structural interactions preferred
