What’s the role?
Etsy’s global Legal team works with every Etsy business unit, across our subsidiaries and offices worldwide, to provide timely and business-savvy legal advice. We help teams that design products, we draft contracts and policies, we advise engineers and leadership, advocate externally, and handle disputes to protect Etsy and our users. We support Etsy’s growth by delivering legal and business know-how with a great work ethic.
We are at an exciting stage of growth, and navigating an evolving regulatory landscape is key to our success. We are looking for an experienced Regulatory Counsel to join our team. You should be able to ramp up quickly. You have deep experience building and operationalizing regulatory change management programs in a wide variety of program areas, including in consumer protection, product safety, competition or content regulation, payments, and IP space, and have advised business leaders as they design groundbreaking products, balancing the needs and values of the business and our community in this ever-changing platform environment. You are eager to answer new questions, tackle uncharted problems, and work with business teams to meet the needs of our dynamic environment. You also have experience balancing business and legal considerations and know how to distill, assess, and prioritize risk when faced with uncertainty. You are comfortable working on a highly collaborative team with diverse experience. You are skilled at interpreting evolving legislation, drafting regulatory briefs and filings, engaging with regulators, and communicating difficult legal issues across legal, business, and engineering audiences. You should understand and be enthusiastic about Etsy’s business and mission as a global marketplace for creative entrepreneurs.
This is a full-time position reporting to the VP & Deputy General Counsel, Litigation, IP, & Privacy Counsel and the base salary range will be 219,000 - 257,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. What does the day to day look like?
- Drive strategy and lead the company’s engagement with regulators and government agencies across the world, collaborating with authorities both directly and through partnerships with outside counsel. You will lead our global competition and antitrust program. Your work will broadly span tech and e-commerce industry subject matters, including: consumer protection, platform to business regulation, privacy, competition, content moderation and IP. Experience working with global regulators, as well as the FTC, DOJ, CSPC, EPA and California, New York, Connecticut, or Illinois regulators is a plus.
- Collaborate closely with the Government Relations teams to horizon scan, analyze new and potential laws, interpret the evolving regulatory landscape, and develop legislative engagement strategy.
- Advise business teams on existing, new, and potential future laws and regulations as they design innovative products and tools. You’ll give sound and practical legal advice, and balance legal risk with commercial, operational, resourcing, compliance, and privacy interests and constraints.
- Collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams in all of this work, demonstrating strong communication and project management skills to get the most from business partners, Legal teammates, and outside counsel.
