Inpatient Peer-Parent Partner Specialty

Position Summary:

• Provides practical advice, suggestions and strategies of recovery to patients as an empowering helper with the perspective of being a recipient of services in the past.
• Provide one-on-one and group sessions.
• Interact with patients in the general milieu; focusing on current recovery and tools used to be successful.
• Provide hope, support, education, and assist patients in setting recovery goals.
• Provide input, as part of the treatment team, on the patient’s care.
• Offer encouragement, emotional support and education to family members of CRF patients, during their stay and after discharge. Specific offerings include (but are not limited to) group information sessions and private family meetings as well as community services contact information
• Provide peer support while working collaboratively to support systems change by increasing family involvement and decreasing unintentional bias about parents
• Maintain good relationships with peer clients, families, staff within the CRF, community service contacts by continuing communication as appropriate.
• Offer valuable Information Sessions to CRF family members that include resources available upon discharge, expectations upon return “home”, list of support contacts, from emergency needs to long-term support.
• Offer private sessions for family members to discuss personal needs as they relate to former patient being in the home.
• Document individual, family and group interactions in patient record.
• Provide therapeutic milieu monitoring and safety management.

Must meet eligibility requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Peer Specialist certification preferred, with Family Endorsement. Certification is required within one year of hire date.
• Peer Specialist on an inpatient psychiatric unit preferred.
