Position Summary:
This is a full-time, nine-month, visiting Professor position, in the Department of Physics and Engineering. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach upper and lower division undergraduate courses related to Computer/Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The College’s liberal arts mission emphasizes excellence in undergraduate teaching with all members of the department contributing to a thriving learning community. The Department of Physics and Engineering emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to teaching design methodologies and problem solving that strives to integrate scientific inquiry with engineering ingenuity.Job Description:
Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience:
- Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, from an accredited college or university by August 15, 2025
- Ability to cover courses in some of the following areas: (i) Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence; (ii) Computer Architecture; (iii) Digital Signal Processing; (iv) Software Development; (v) Networking and Security; (vi) Embedded Devices (FPGAs and Microcontrollers); (vii) Digital VLSI Design; and (viii) Robotics/Real-Time Systems.

- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience being an instructor of record for undergraduate Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related courses
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor undergraduate research projects
- Experience teaching a diverse student population in backgrounds and academic abilities
- Committed to teaching and mentoring students on interdisciplinary topics
- Proven willingness to contribute outside of your area of academic expertise
Major Responsibilities
- Teach discipline-appropriate courses in Computer Engineering and General Engineering along with any Engineering or Computer Science course offerings related to the candidate’s expertise as needed by the department (the teaching load is 21 credits per year)
- Interact professionally and collegially with Fort Lewis College faculty, staff, and students, being a “team player” contributing to the growth and success of our students, the department, and the college
- Perform any assigned duties related to departmental assessment and ABET accreditation, as well as college-level service
- Act as a student recruiting and retention agent
- Hold regular office hours
- Engage authentically with students, the department and colleagues
- Take responsibility for all grading of student work and submitting grades at the end of each semester
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.
- Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install computer equipment.

The salary for this position is $69,000, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
