Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a Part-Time as Needed Electrical Inspector with 10 years or more to join our Resilience Water Construction Management Team! Based in our Hanover, MD office, this position primarily involves field work and will support our programs with Harford County, Anne Arundel County, DC Water, WSSC, and Fairfax County.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our local team while receiving support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. The Construction Inspector will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of construction inspection, construction field management, QA / QC and report documentation, on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal water and wastewater treatment, power generation, manufacturing facilities or other heavy construction projects. The Inspector will report to a Construction Manager and will be primarily based in the field and will provide regular updates on daily construction activities.
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will observe and inspect construction work performed by contractors, perform punch list inspections, review drawings and specifications and other technical documents, prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports and participate in project schedule and contractor invoice reviews.
This is a Part-time as Needed (PTAN) position, which means the hours assigned will vary depending on the workload in the area. While there are weeks when a full-time inspector is needed, there will be weeks of down time when no work will be available. This is ideal for an individual looking for that level of flexibility.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Maintain quality assurance requirements and approach and monitor code compliance issues.
- Inspect and determine deviations from general compliance with Contract Documents; clearly and professionally inform the contractor of required corrections.
- Review submittals and other construction documents and recommend technical solutions.
- Regularly attend and participate in construction meetings, safety meetings/updates and project site coordination meetings.
- Monitor and document contractor resource utilization (labor, materials, and equipment) for field changes, and time and material work and assist with negotiation of basic field construction changes.
- Verify equipment and materials installation for payment purposes.
- Maintain Payment Quantity documentation.
- Perform mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities.
- While performing daily inspections, inspector will be required to ensure Arcadis’ project safety guidelines are being met.
- Travel will be required to multiple project site visits, client meetings, safety audits, construction oversight, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- 10 years of electrical infrastructure, municipal, and utility construction inspection experience.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze and organize data.
- Demonstrated skills in identifying, analyzing, and providing innovative solutions to problems, along with a high level of math aptitude.
- Ability to multi-task several priorities and possess solid time management skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint and Outlook).
- Position requires employee to work year-round in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of electrical/utility construction inspection experience.
- OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training.
- Master Electrician License.
- NFPA Certified Electrical Inspector (CEI) certification.
- NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training.
- OSHA 10 Safety and Confined Space Entry Training, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Active participation in a regional or national profession
