Summary of position: Our food service workers are considered a jack of all trades. They are cross trained to have the ability to work in various roles within the department including cashing, food prep, serving and dishwashing. Most often, they assume one of the roles but can perform the duties (as needed) summarized below:



 

Position Summary:

The  Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of meals. This role ensures that meals are nutritious, appealing, and prepared in accordance with health, safety, and dietary standards. The worker contributes to a comfortable, welcoming dining environment for residents and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals in accordance with menus, dietary restrictions, and food safety standards.
  • Serve meals to residents in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, dining areas, and equipment.
  • Follow food storage and labeling procedures, ensuring compliance with all health regulations.
  • Set up dining areas before meals and clean up afterward, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Monitor food supplies and report shortages or equipment issues to the supervisor.
  • Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
  • Practice safe food handling and hygiene at all times.
  • Provide respectful and friendly customer service to residents and coworkers.
  • Comply with facility policies and procedures, including safety and emergency protocols.

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous food service experience preferred, especially in a residential, healthcare, or institutional setting.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes, instructions, and safety guidelines.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (e.g., ServSafe certification preferred).
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Compassionate attitude toward working with residents, including older adults or individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a residential facility kitchen and dining area.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, and cooking equipment is common.
  • May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts
