Description
This program will serve Mansueto Noble Charter in Brighton Park Two Days a Week. The purpose of this OJJDP Safer Communities is to reduce and prevent violence within the school, create a positive learning environment, address the impact of trauma and build resilience among students, teachers, administration and parents.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Provide direct prevention education and intervention services to Level 1, 2 and 3 youth
Work with teachers to implement positive classroom strategies
Participate in School Safety Strategic Planning process to advise on violence prevention education interventions and strategies
Conduct ongoing individual, small, and large group training with school administration, faculty and other staff to teach and reinforce Trauma-Informed Resilience Oriented School toolkit strategies
Engage and provide technical assistance and training to school personnel, parents, and community members in prevention programs
Conduct parent groups and activities as directed by the Strategic Plan and in coordination with the school administration
Gather information and analyze data to evaluate and adjust programs, when necessary, in accordance with funding program requirements
Select and evaluate educational and informational materials and programs
Implement other projects, activities, or job duties as assigned

Attributes/Skills Required/Sought:
Experience providing service in community programs, facilitating groups, public speaking, and prevention.
Coursework or training in prevention philosophy, youth development, substance abuse, or case management.
Displays sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present in SGA service population
Understand and apply principles, methods, procedures, and strategies utilized in the development of a comprehensive program designed for high-risk
Demonstrate excellent communication skills
Experiences/Education Required/Sought:
Associate's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field from an accredited college or university.
At least two years experience working with youth and families
Must be committed to work with youth and their families who are affected by mental health and/or substance abuse issues
