About the role
The adjunct Clinical Faculty member is responsible for supervising and educating pre licensure License Practical Nursing (LPN) students enrolled in an online nursing program during assigned clinical experiences in approved hospital and healthcare settings. In addition to clinical supervision, the faculty member supports student learning through online instruction, evaluation of clinical performance, and collaboration with program leadership and clinical partners.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, on‑site clinical supervision of pre‑licensure LPN students at assigned hospital or healthcare facilities.
- Ensure safe, effective, and evidence‑based nursing practice by students in accordance with course objectives, program outcomes, and regulatory standards.
- Orient students to the clinical site, policies, procedures, and expectations for professional conduct.
- Supervise and evaluate students’ clinical skills, critical thinking, documentation, and patient care.
- Intervene appropriately to ensure patient safety and student learning.
- Work closely with the Clinical Coordinator and LPN Program Director in order to ensure consistent clinical instruction, student evaluation, regulatory compliance, and high-quality clinical learning experiences across all clinical sites.
Job Skills:
- Demonstrated competence in clinical nursing practices.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to use learning management systems and virtual meeting platforms
Work Experience:
- Prior experience teaching or supervising pre‑licensure nursing students in clinical settings preferred.
- Experience with online or hybrid nursing education preferred.
- Current clinical practice in a hospital or a comparable healthcare environment preferred.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical nursing experience in acute care or relevant clinical settings preferred.
Certificates, licenses and registrations:
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where clinical instruction occurs (or multi‑state compact license, if applicable).
- Candidates who do not hold a current, unencumbered Washington, DC RN license at the time of application must apply for DC licensure if an offer of employment is extended.
Other:
- Must be able to travel occasionally should a business need arise. For most roles, travel would not be common. Travel may involve planes, cars or metros. In accordance with ADA policies, reasonable accommodations regarding travel limitations can be provided. Travel will be more common for roles such as Account Executives (25 - 50%), senior leaders (10 – 20%) or Capella Core Faculty (5 – 10%).
- Ability to work onsite in Corporate or Campus location (in a typical office environment) may be required based on role. If so, this would include being mobile within the office, including movement from floor-to-floor using elevators or stairs.
- If offsite or hybrid role, must have access to work in settings which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at a remote location.

- Compliance with all clinical site onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screening, immunizations, and health clearances.
- Maintenance of required licensure and certifications throughout employment.
- Completion of institutional faculty orientation and ongoing training.
