Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital opened on Jan. 24, 1955 as a 238-bed community hospital. Today, the hospital is a 1,101-bed major academic and referral center with Level I adult trauma and Level II pediatric trauma designations. Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital has 43 residency and fellowship programs with 454 residents and fellows. Corewell is the exclusive clinical partner of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, with more than 1,400 Beaumont doctors on faculty.

Scope of work 


 

Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures involving the testing, preparation, and reporting of patient samples. Plans and oversees employee scheduling to ensure the effective operation of the section. Will evaluate and implement policies, procedures, schedules, instrumentation that will enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and standardization of the section(s). Assists management with employee performance review, competency evaluations and training. Ensures all regulatory and compliance requirements are met.

Essential Functions

  • Displays technical skills in all areas of the department. Oversees or participates in the technical operations including QA/QC checks, system maintenance issues, accuracy of test results and general troubleshooting. Acts as a reference source for technologists in the correlation of test data.
    Reviews results prior to PhD/pathologist sign off
  • Ensures regulatory requirements are met.
  • Organizes, directs, and oversees daily activities, establishes work flow pattern, assists in establishing work performance standards and establishes work priorities. Writes and oversees staff competency testing. Adjusts staffing assignments to work flow.
  • Writes/recommends/assists with implementation of department policies and procedures. Oversees or performs new test validations.
  • Participates in ongoing performance monitoring and identifies opportunities to improve staff performance. Oversees orientation and training of new staff and students. Evaluates performance of departmental staff, submits input about work performance and supplies documentation for disciplinary action.
  • Implements solutions to problems in processing and delivering highly accurate patient data. Maintains department and equipment in a condition to promote efficiency, quality control, and safety to staff. Develops and monitors preventative maintenance program and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate people.
  • Competent with multiple computer systems including LIS/HIS and various analytic software programs. Works with IS to complete required security and architecture reviews for software used in the department.
  • Oversees all aspects of IRB research studies including required CITI training, data entry, document storage and vendor invoicing.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree In chemistry, biology, medical technology or health related field
  • 5 years of relevant experience Related work experience in Molecular, Cytogenetics, or Flow Cytometry, including oversight of Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunohematology Required
  • CRT-Cytogenetic Technologist (CG) - ASCP American Society for Clinical Pathology required
