Job Description

AECOM has an immediate need for an Environmental Scientist to join our Remediation team in our New York City office. This is a field-base role comprising approximately 70% field work and 30% office-based work.  The candidate will join a large established team conducting environmental assessment and remediation projects around the New York Metropolitan and Long Island areas. The successful candidate will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering professional consulting services to our key clients.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

This position requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a range of projects, and a positive attitude. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team, clients, site personnel and office management, and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a project team. Note this role may require travel outside of the New York Metropolitan area (from days to weeks) to support projects as needed across the United States.

  • Performing routine fieldwork working under close supervision from project managers. Field work may include sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, and ground water 
  • Participating in site visits and coordinating and assisting field staff as required.
  • Performing work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Develop knowledge of job-specific  federal, state, and local laws and regulations and assigned job specifications.
  • Collecting and analyzing data under the supervision of an experienced scientist/engineer.
  • Preparing progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attending meetings and reporting on project tasks.
  • Remedial construction oversight including subcontractor management.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS and 2+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required
  • Experience with oversight of drilling operations is required
  • Valid Driver’s License and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review
  • Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science/geology is preferred
  • Experience working on Superfund and/or NYSDEC field programs is helpful
  • Experience using computation models is helpful
