Rate: $26.00 per hour
The Suffolk County Department of Public Works is seeking candidates for the position of Storm Response Equipment Operator. This position operates motor vehicles and diesel or gasoline-powered equipment used in maintaining County roads and facilities in response to major storm events. The primary work responsibility is for the efficient operation of a motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment to plow, clear roadways, salt roads and move equipment during weather events. Selected candidates will be placed on a list and called out as needed for storm operations.
Minimum Qualifications
CDL license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. License must be maintained throughout employment in this position.*
Heavy Equipment Operating and Maintenance Experience
Snow Plowing Experience
Comprehensive Knowledge of Suffolk County Roadways
* All CDL employees are required to submit to a Federal DOT pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to all DOT regulations, including random drug testing during the snow removal season and post-accident testing.
Comprehensive knowledge of Suffolk County roads
good knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of trucks and equipment used in snow removal and highway related work
good knowledge of motor vehicle regulations governing the use of equipment
good knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment
ability to make emergency repairs and to assist in making general repairs to motor vehicles and related equipment
physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
