KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates surgery schedule with patient, physician, and operating room, in support of surgery scheduling function.
- Coordinates with other services to schedule multi-panel and multi-surgeon combination cases across all locations.
- Reviews surgical cases to verify location complies with clinician and institutional priorities.
- Ensures all appointments related to surgery are scheduled appropriately.
- Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for procedure, obtain precertifications and discusses potential financial obligations or complex issues with patient.
- Identifies if a patient’s coverage is in-network or out-of-network and resolves complex insurance issues independently or with Manager, when appropriate.
- Obtains precertification or proper insurance approval prior to surgical procedures.
- Notifies and forwards paperwork for insurance certification to billing office and obtains additional paperwork if needed, for compliance.
- Reviews provider time away and manages operative block reassignments and releasing time as needed to ensure maximum utilization and patient access.
- Evaluates team workload to ensure or recommend equitable responsibilities and provide solutions (examples may include flexing team members to different tasks or assisting in creating coverage plans when a team member is out).
- Monitors surgery schedule and ensures optimization of resources and workflow.
- Maintains quality and engages in quality improvement efforts in operations impacting patients and staff.
- Mentors, trains, and leads team of new and current employees.
- May provide feedback as needed for peer reviews and evaluations as requested.

- Patient Scheduling (Advanced): The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.

- Patient Documentation (Advanced): The ability to receive and record patient information.
- Medical Terminology & Documentation (Advanced): The ability to comprehend medical terminology and documentation in an office, or surgical setting.
