Job Description

Protein Sciences is seeking a Senior Scientist to join our Protein Expression and Purification group at our South San Francisco site. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the discovery of novel therapeutics through the production and purification of biologics and effective participation in project team strategies. This role involves purifying and characterizing complex biologics, including monoclonal antibodies, multispecific scaffolds, and novel protein modalities, to support all aspects of Discovery Research within the Protein Sciences department. Key Responsibilities:

• Purify and characterize recombinant proteins and antibodies using AKTA chromatography instruments.
• Represent the Protein Design and Production group in project team meeting and propose best path forward, contribute to decision making process and coordinate efforts with stakeholders.
• Utilize various protein purification techniques such as affinity, size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), ion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC).
• Characterize proteins using biophysical and spectroscopy methods like HPLC-SEC, HPLC-RP, SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, and DSF to quantify proteins and assess purity and stability.
• Independently plan, execute, and analyze experiments within specific timelines to solve complex scientific problems and interpret findings.
• Maintain accurate and timely Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN) and prepare technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
• Stay current with the latest technologies and apply new concepts to improve functional area capabilities and methods.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
• Collaborate effectively with a diverse group of scientists and demonstrate inclusive behaviors to drive our core mission.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Ph.D., Master’s (with 4+ years) or Bachelors’ (with 7+ years) in pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biochemical engineering, or related disciplines and relevant experience listed below.

Required Experience and Skills:

• Extensive hands-on experience in protein purification and optimization using AKTA chromatography instruments.
• Proficiency in multi-step protein purification techniques such as affinity, SEC, ion exchange, and HIC.
• Experience with protein characterization methods.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly at group and company meetings.
• Commitment to maintaining accurate and timely records in Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN) and databases
• Knowledge of the latest technologies and ability to apply new concepts to improve methods and capabilities.
• Adherence to safety protocols and maintenance of a clean and organized laboratory environment.
• Team-oriented mindset and respect for others.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Experience in advancing protein therapeutics through discovery to pre-clinical candidate stage
• Experience in physicochemical characterization and developability assessment.
• Solid understanding of protein expression optimization.
• Advanced computational, data analysis, and structural biology skills.
• Knowledge of construct design and protein engineering techniques.
