About the role

Performs various support functions in research laboratory using proper procedures to avoid the risk of laboratory-acquired infection or sample-to-sample contamination. Maintains and cleans equipment and the facility; maintains and restocks supplies; and maintains computer database. Works under direct supervision. Attention to detail is essential while dealing with multiple tasks. Flexibility is important in adjusting to frequent changes in work volume.

Additional Information

Position overview:  This position is within the research lab of Dr. Diane Ehlers, which focuses on exercise and health outcomes in individuals with a history of cancer. The research assistant contributes to the lab’s clinical research studies. Job duties include: completing all required training and competency testing; administration of graded exercise tests (after completing training); assisting with data collection, entry, and management in the lab’s active studies; working with other team members to ensure daily operations of the lab; and performing other miscellaneous duties as assigned. Highly motivated individuals may also have opportunities to contribute to the lab’s dissemination activities, including academic and community presentations and scientific manuscripts. The research assistant will receive supervision and direction from senior lab members and the primary investigator. The position is designed for individuals interested in receiving clinical research experience in lifestyle behaviors, neuroscience, and/or cancer survivorship. This is a part-time position that may require some nights and weekend availability.  

 

Requires a high school diploma with coursework in mathematics and relevant sciences. Must have previous work experience that demonstrates organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. Requires manual dexterity, accurate typing, and good communication skills. Must be able to prioritize and adjust to changes in work volume.

Additional Preferred Experience and Qualifications: 

Junior or Senior undergraduate status or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as exercise science, kinesiology, public health, neuroscience, or psychology. In addition to required skills, individuals who are self-motivated and work well in team settings are preferred
