About the role

Under the direction of the Hyperbaric Supervisor, the Hyperbaric Medical Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician. Operates and maintains the hyperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment in compliance with all standards and regulatory statutes. Is in attendance with the patients at all times while undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. In collaboration with the patients nursing case manager and hyperbaric physician ensures all necessary medical clearances and paperwork are complete before the first treatment is taken. Assists in the delivery of patient care appropriate to the level of his/her medical training. May also be responsible for daily patient data entry into wound management database and monthly reports. Collaborates with the Wound Clinic on all patient matters and facilitates the continuum of care throughout the system. May be requested to assist with care in the wound clinic on a limited basis. While in the Wound clinic, provides and documents care to patients under the direction of the RN, ensuring a safe, comfortable and confidential environment. Inputs order entry. Ensures that supply cabinets are stocked and that supplies are ordered in a timely manner for the Wound Clinic and Hyperbarics. Maintains and is responsible for clinic equipment inventory. Responsible for all ordering on HBOT related supplies and equipment. Maintains and is responsible for clinic equipment inventory beyond the hyperbaric chambers. Coordinates with Healthcare Clinical Assistant (HCCA) on all relevant unit matters to maintain smooth clinic flow. Must have ability to handle multiple issues at once administrative as well as clinical. Must possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians and co-workers. Possesses excellent organizational skills in order to function in a fast paced high energy environment. Speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.

Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
Completion of National Board of Hyperbaric and Medical Technologies recognized Training coursePreferred Education: US Navy Deep Sea Diving Medical Technician or Special Operations TechnicianMinimum Experience: 6 - 12 months health care related and/or with EMT certificationPreferred Experience: 1 year clinical hyperbaric systems operation or US Navy Deep Sea Diving Medical Technician or Special Operations TechnicianRequired Certification: Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT)
American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare ProviderPreferred Certification: Certified Diver Medic Technician (DMT)
Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)Required License: Not ApplicablePreferred License: Current CA LVN License
