The Team:
Upstart’s Auto Retail Lending team is on a mission to make it easy, fast, and seamless for car buyers to secure auto loans through our dealership partners. We build the core technologies that power Upstart’s Auto Finance platform, with a focus on driving demand for auto loans by enabling our dealership partners to create, present, and close loan offers with ease. We design intuitive, stable, and high-impact workflows that integrate directly into the dealership experience. Our north star is conversion rate, turning credit applications into funded loans, through a strong product mix, deliberate engineering practices, and a customer-first mindset.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Upstart, you will work closely with cross-functional partners to execute projects across our entire stack. Ideally, you’re a self starter who delivers work with quality, testability, resiliency, and maintainability in mind. You’ll
How you’ll make an impact
- Lead successful projects working collaboratively with engineering team members and cross-functional partners
- Make thoughtful architectural decisions to improve the quality of our software and drive a culture of technical excellence
- Build dealership-facing tooling that streamline deal negotiation, loan creation, and contracting
- Ensure platform reliability and end-to-end scalability for Auto Retail loan originations
- Monitor success through metrics like conversion rate, rate presentation, and share of wallet
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years working with full stack web applications
- Demonstrated experience building scalable APIs and services, ideally in production
- Able to translate complex business requirements into system architecture and technical designs
- Experience leading engineers on medium to large projects through planning, design, implementation, and launch
- Experience driving a culture of technical excellence related to quality, availability, and scalability
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years working in a full stack capacity in languages such as Kotlin, Ruby, Typescript, or React
- Proficiency in Docker, GitHub Actions, and cloud environments like AWS
- Demonstrated success in mentoring teammates and guiding success in project execution
- Passion for improving user experience through best practices and metrics-driven development
Position Location - This role is available in the following locations: Remote, San Mateo, Columbus, Austin
Time Zone Requirements - This team operates across all U.S. time zones.
Travel Requirements - This team has regular on-site collaboration sessions. These occur 3 days per quarter at an Upstart office. If you need to travel to make these meetups, Upstart will cover all travel related expenses.
