We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior cloud engineer with experience in both AWS and Azure to join our dynamic cloud team. In this role, you will be responsible for powering Commonwealth’s mission of migrating applications and workloads to Public Cloud. Your primary task will include designing, implementing, and managing AWS cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and reliability. You will report to cloud lead and contribute to all cloud-related projects. Your experience in managing cloud and software engineering teams, along with a proven track record of delivering leading-edge technology infrastructure, is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline solutions to support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments.
- Implement security best practices for both traditional and cloud environments.
- Support the management of hybrid infrastructures using Azure, AWS, and some on-prem solutions.
- Participate in and contribute to the solution engineering process.
- Produce, evaluate, and improve on operational processes, procedures, and documentation.
- Collaborate with teams in other locations to ensure the reliable performance of integrated security solutions across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient and reliable cloud solutions.
- Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost-efficiency and performance.
- Build out hybrid cloud environments and lead large migrations.
- Support other groups within the organization to maintain availability and proper operation of the infrastructure.
- Deliver operational excellence; focus on the service management and DevOps approach to achieve agility, scale, and efficiency.
- Set Azure and AWS architectural standards and design automation for cloud infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code); work with our technology partners to design best-in-class cloud system implementations.
- Ensure that security policy, compliance requirements, and Azure/AWS best practices are implemented across all projects.
- Partner with security and application teams to ensure that infrastructure is secure and meets the company’s needs.
Core Strengths and Skills
- Experience working with microservices and containerization, including orchestration and cluster management, as well as container storage, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with deploying, configuring, and maintaining Linux/Windows server systems in the Cloud.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions; Terraform required.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is required and Azure, with certifications preferred.
- Experience with configuration management solutions; Ansible preferred.
- Experience with container orchestration and lifecycle management; Kubernetes and EKS preferred.
- Experience in systems operations management and maintaining environments for enterprise applications.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools for automating Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitLab preferred.
- Experience with project management, preferably Agile management approaches and tools.
- Experience supporting hybrid architectures and cloud migrations.
- Solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and infrastructure automation approaches.
- Working knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP and standard Internet related protocols.
- Hands-on experience with scripting languages (Python or others) is required.
- Proven experience in collaborating with cross-functional business units.
- Experience managing cloud platform spending through metrics and reporting.
- Experience educating stakeholders on the impact of cloud configuration decisions.
- Exposure to other cloud environments such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Office 365 is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
