Global Studies Research Intern (Part-Time, Temporary)

As the Global Studies Research Intern, you will contribute to an important initiative examining the history, impact, and evolution of global studies at Duke. Working alongside distinguished faculty leaders, you will help document the contributions of the humanities, arts, and interpretive social sciences while supporting strategic conversations about Duke's global engagement and academic impact.

In this role, you will conduct research, analyze data, and communicate findings that demonstrate the broad impact of Duke's faculty, students, and academic programs on global scholarship and society.

 

 

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research related to the history and development of global studies at Duke University.
  • Investigate and document the impact of faculty scholarship across major global studies disciplines.
  • Analyze graduate student training outcomes and assess research, teaching, and broader professional contributions.
  • Examine undergraduate participation and identify examples of educational and career impact.
  • Collect, organize, and interpret data from a variety of academic and institutional sources.
  • Develop reports, narratives, visualizations, summaries, and other communication materials that effectively convey research findings.
  • Present research outcomes and recommendations to the Global Priorities Committee (GPC) and Trinity Global Committee (TGC).
  • Collaborate closely with faculty supervisors to ensure research activities support committee priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records and project documentation throughout the engagement.

 

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience gathering, organizing, and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly through written reports, presentations, and visualizations.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with faculty and administrative partners.
  • Proficiency with data analysis, research tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Interest in higher education, global studies, humanities, social sciences, or related fields preferred.

 

Position Details

  • Temporary, short-term internship opportunity
  • Part-time schedule of up to 20 hours per week
  • Total appointment of approximately 208 hours
  • Compensation: $24.00 per hour
  • Project duration: Approximately 10.5 weeks

 

 

Reporting Relationships

The Global Studies Research Intern will work under the direction of the Professor of African and African American Studies and member of the Global Priorities Committee, and the Professor of African and African American Studies and Cultural Anth
