Financial stability plays a crucial role in the healing process. As a Financial Counselor at Recovery Centers of America (RCA), you will help patients and families understand and navigate the financial aspects of treatment—ensuring access to care, clarity in coverage, and peace of mind.
Your work supports both patients and RCA’s mission by promoting financial health and stability—key components of the social determinants of health—while helping RCA achieve its financial and operational goals.
What You’ll Do
As a Financial Counselor at RCA, you will:
- Support enterprise revenue and EBITDA goals by managing patient financial responsibility (PFR) collection and payment plan enrollment.
- Meet with all new patients within 72 hours of admission to review benefit details and estimated financial responsibility.
- Attend daily multidisciplinary “flash” meetings to share updates on financial issues or outcomes affecting patient care.
- Collaborate daily with the multidisciplinary treatment team on patient coverage updates and changes.
- Ensure all financial forms are completed, signed, and documented according to RCA policies and procedures.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding payment options, financial assistance programs, and healthcare costs.
- Determine and collect payments for financial responsibility, setting up payment plans when necessary.
- Support outpatient programs by collecting co-pays and ensuring accurate entry of patient financial information in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Secure payment for all Private Pay patients, including treatment, private room, and Recovery Housing fees.
- Assist self-pay patients and families when insurance coverage ends or is denied for medical necessity reasons.
- Develop and implement new systems to maximize patient days and financial efficiency.
- Manage insurance eligibility and policy follow-up processes, including reinstating benefits when coverage lapses.
- Coordinate with employers, HR departments, and insurers to facilitate reinstatement of health insurance coverage.
- Identify and assist patients with applications for medical and financial assistance programs.
- Stay informed of State and Federal insurance regulations and third-party administrator changes.
- Manage RCA’s daily collection reconciliation, ensuring accurate reporting and deposit of payments.
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all financial activities, communications, and transactions.
- Collect fees for professional services and participate in financial reporting data collection.
- Conduct discharge meetings with patients to reconcile accounts and arrange payment to bring balances to zero.
