The Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team at Collins Aerospace is looking for an exceptionally motivated engineer to design and develop electrical systems for the integration of electronic equipment on military/commercial aircraft and ground stations. The design includes creating system wiring diagrams, power distribution unit (PDU), control panels and other items using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Engineering duties will span the entire product lifecycle, from requirements capture and analysis, through design, testing, and production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. Designs can include development of power distribution, electrical loads analysis, and load shedding scheme along with the opportunity to support testing and integration of systems on the aircraft.

What You Will Do

  • Developing the wiring architecture inclusive of conventional wiring, data bus cable assemblies (power, coax, fiber optic), junction boxes and panel assemblies.  Design must account for: Voltage drop, EMI separation and redundancy
  • Integrate electrical components and wiring into design while meeting vendor and OEM requirements.
  • Verify system configuration and block diagram.
  • Operate in a team environment with other functional areas providing input to design solutions and participate in design reviews.
  • Selection of wire, connector and accessory components matching schematic requirements
  • Oversee Electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, Harness assembly drawing, Circuit Breakers, and Electrical Loads Analysis.  Coordinate Aircraft electrical mission equipment installations.
  • Identifying, documenting, and communicating significant design and integration risks for timely review and resolution.
  • Monitoring and reporting of aircraft installation design milestones and reporting status to project/program management.
  • Be self-directed, able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight.

  • Experience with aircraft and/or other technical system integration).
  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements
  • Progressive understanding of power systems and various mission systems
  • Knowledge of design and development processes with practical experience in multiple phases of the HW lifecycle: requirements, design, development, integration, validation/verification, and sustainment
  • Able to investigate problems to the root cause and then champion the creation and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and processes
  • Proven leadership of small technical teams
  • Ability to create appropriate development procedures, conduct effective design reviews and provide technical guidance to other members of development teams.
  • Proven experience working with manufacturing teams, vendors, and other suppliers to build cost-effective solutions.
  • Experience working with customers to define requirements and identify potential platform installation issues during project design phases.
  • Experience in electrical design using Siemens Capital / Harness Logic Designer
