- Assist the dentist during examinations and dental procedures by providing necessary instruments, materials, and support.
- Prepare patients for dental treatments, including positioning, applying topical anesthetics, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Take and record patient medical histories and vital signs as needed before procedures.
- Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols.
- Maintain a clean and sterile environment in all treatment areas to prevent cross-contamination.
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste and follow safety protocols in handling materials
- Take diagnostic radiographs (x-rays) as prescribed by the dentist, ensuring proper safety precautions.
- Assist in the placement and removal of dental materials such as fillings, impressions, and other restorative materials.
- Ensure patients are informed and comfortable throughout their treatment process, answering questions and addressing concerns.
- Accurately document patient treatment, including procedures performed and any changes in the treatment plan, in the patient's electronic health record (EHR).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a dental assistant program from an accredited school.
- Active Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license in [State] is required.
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- X-ray certification as required by state regulations.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a dental assistant in a clinical setting is preferred.
- Experience with dental radiography, sterilization protocols, and assisting with dental procedures is a must.
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures, equipment, and instruments.
- Exceptional manual dexterity and the ability to work efficiently during dental procedures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and dental team members.
