Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to support the Dreamlifter Large Cargo Freighter (LCF) in North Charleston, SC or Heath, Ohio. This position manages the development, design, certification, and validation of highly complex tooling concepts and solutions. The tooling is airplane hardware in support of Dreamlifter operations for the 787 and 767 production systems.

Our team is currently hiring for various experience levels including Mid-Level or Senior Tooling Design Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the development of new tooling design and the modification of existing designs to satisfy customer and production requirements.
  • Performs analysis of technical data, technology options, LCF operations impacts, and Production System integration.
  • Perform complex analysis (e.g. stress, static and dynamic loading) by applying engineering principles.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, productivity, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinates development of engineering product definition with internal/external parties to ensure compliance with applicable standards, requirements and design parameters as well as product functionality.
  • Supports gated reviews and plans for production readiness, preventative maintenance and spares, training and knowledge transfer to production and maintenance personnel as well as LCF operator personnel.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Project Management to execute project plans, provide input to make/buy decisions and work to meet schedule, cost and quality targets.
  • Support selection and fabrication oversight of design solutions.
  • Maintain configuration control of engineering change to requirements/definitions.
  • Maintain compliance to requirements by conducting design reviews and analyzing performance data through acceptance testing and test part trials.
  • Develop technical documentation in support of tooling solutions (e.g. technical specifications, operations manuals, maintenance and repair manuals, illustrated parts catalogs, markings, allowable substitutions)
  • Coordinate design, development and certification with Cargo Design, Cargo Stress, Dynamic Loads, Weights Engineering, Structures, BR&T and Suppliers.
  • Lead, manage and incorporate continuous process improvements and optimizations into all engineering tasks.
  • Technical support of planning/program directives and feasibility/trade studies

Work Authorization Statement:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Experience leading projects or engineering teams
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of work time
  • CATIA and ENOVIA proficiency

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Familiarity with NASTRAN/PATRAN
  • Airframe structures experience
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Familiar with airframe loads, methods, allowables and analysis
  • 747 operations experience

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
