Job Description Summary
The North America Wind Major Component Upgrades (MCU) Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely execution of all major component upgrade activities across the wind turbine fleet. This includes planning and oversight of field operations, coordination of logistics, contractor and crane management, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and cost expectations. Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure strict compliance with all EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) standards, site protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead, coordinate, and oversee end-to-end major component upgrade projects (gearboxes, generators, main shafts, etc.) across multiple wind sites.
• Develop detailed work plans, timelines, and resource allocations in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
• Work closely with supply chain and logistics to ensure timely delivery of components and tooling.
• Lead and coordinate field teams (technicians, site managers, subcontractors), ensuring high levels of performance, professionalism, and safety.
• Monitor project KPIs such as downtime, cost per MCE, safety metrics, and contractor performance.
• Provide regular updates to leadership/customers including project status, risk assessments, and issue resolution.
• Support root cause analysis of component failures and provide input to reliability engineering teams.
• Ensure documentation, reporting, and close-out procedures are completed for each project.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field (OR High School Diploma/GED with a minimum 4 years of mechanical, electrical or wind industry experience)
• Minimum 5 years in wind turbine operations, with at least 2 years of those years directly managing major component upgrade projects.
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing crane operations, rigging, and heavy equipment logistics.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Remote/field-based with extensive travel to turbine sites.
• Requires working at heights and in outdoor weather conditions.
• May involve physically demanding tasks and irregular work hours during component replacements.
Desired:
• Strong knowledge of turbine components and industry best practices.
• Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of technical drawings, turbine manuals, and work instructions.
• Proficiency in project management tools, SAP, CMMS, and SCADA systems.
• Safety-focused with knowledge/training of OSHA, LOTO, and GWO standards.
• Ability to work under pressure in remote field environments.
• Crane lift planning or rigging certification a plus
• PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred
