Municipal Insurance Account Executive - Western Michigan

Candidates must reside in the state of Michigan.
This position is responsible for maintaining and developing Michigan Municipal League (MML) insurance presence in an assigned territory. This role is a non-commissioned “sales and service” role that is essential to fulfilling our commitment to the MML contracts with an emphasis on selecting risks that match with the MML’s appetite for risk.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Meet with and explain liability and property insurance coverages to the designated insurance contact within a public entity.
- Prepare and present new and renewal insurance coverage and pricing quotations timely by mail or at council meetings as requested or required to protect public entities from financial risk.
- Gather or assist members in gathering new and renewal exposure data.
- Professionally present and respond to questions regarding coverage and exposures including workers’ compensation coverage, experience modification factors, audits and dividends.
- Maintain accurate and timely monthly activity logs to be shared with management and the MML client. Follow up on unpaid deductibles or accounts receivable as needed. Participate in trade show booths as assigned.
- Communicate with Underwriting, Loss Control, Claims, Customer Service Reps to ensure members’ needs are met and questions are answered.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in insurance or related field.
- Attain / Maintain Michigan Resident Producer / Agent license in Property and Casualty required. Accident and Health and/or surplus lines licenses encouraged.
- Michigan Property Casualty license must be obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Attain/ maintain at least one insurance designation (e.g., Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Consultant (CIC) or IIA designation
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial insurance experience in direct insurance sales/service/ property & casualty underwriting OR a minimum of 5 years’ experience in working for a public entity.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to reason, analyze and appropriately respond to member or client concerns.
- Ability to ascertain insurance exposures and ensure risk is explained and mitigated to the extent possible or desired by the member. Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and responsiveness to customer inquiry.
- Ability to work successfully with the entire team (underwriting, claims, loss control), and support other account executive team members during absences.
- Effective time management skills, including scheduling member visits, meeting deadlines for collection of exposure data and presenting in person at council meetings, which may be in the evening.
- Effective and professional presentation skills.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 360.
- Sit, stand, walk, ambulatory and need to be in a car for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office setting with no unusual hazards.
Travel at least 50% by car through assigned territory in Michigan. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, good-driving record and vehicle in good working order at all times. Need to maintain Michigan No-Fault Insurance.
Occasional participation in evening council meetings may be required.
