SUMMARY
As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute substantially to supporting capital substation project, developing and maintaining substation standards and equipment specifications, applying professional knowledge of engineering processes and industry standards. You will develop engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, and regulatory requirements while following sound engineering practices.
A successful candidate will have knowledge of engineering and economic principles, as well as intermediate accuracy skills and written and oral communication abilities. In this role you will be designing substations and battery energy storage projects. This role offers exciting challenges in designing cutting-edge electrical systems for substations, allowing you to shape the future of energy infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – P2 Intermediate Level
- Engineering Standards: - Maintains currency in state-of-the- art engineering practices and independently applies professional knowledge of engineering processes and standards to assignments/projects.
- Contributes substantially to developing and maintaining substation standards and equipment and construction specifications. Applies professional knowledge of applicable industry standards.
- Engineering Standards: - Applies professional knowledge of NERC/WECC Reliability Standards and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection and professional knowledge of NEC and NESC to plant design and construction and applies engineering theories and concepts in enhancing knowledge of power generation facilities; enhances familiarity with and ability to find specific IEEE standards.
- Develops and maintains substation standards as assigned; develops and maintains equipment specifications (e.g., power circuit breakers and circuit switchers from 15kV through 230kV, distribution and bulk power transformers, transmission and distribution capacitor banks, medium-voltage metalclad switchgear, high-voltage air-break disconnect switches and gas-insulated switchgear and substation control enclosures); serves as designated secondary contact for major equipment, including maintaining knowledge of technological advances.
- Engineering Production: - Prepares a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables; leads smaller production teams. Develops engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes and regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice.
- Develops electrical physical designs for substations (e.g., substation electrical arrangements, plans and sections; high-voltage bus designs and analysis; grounding plans and analysis; conduit and raceway plans; substation yard lighting); develops electrical control designs for substations (e.g., AC- and DC- control schematic diagrams; equipment and control panel wiring diagrams; control enclosure and control panel design and layouts; lighting controls); develops substation automation and SCADA designs (e.g., RTU/PLC control schematics and wiring; substation communications network layouts and block diagrams; conceptual SCADA designs for new and existing facilities); completes a range of electrical studies; coordinates completion of as-built drawings.
- Project Coordination: Assigns tasks and coordinates with other internal/external team members on assigned projects; shares information and provides professional guidance in executing project tasks.
- Develops and coordinates engineering of projects with design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of substations; conducts analysis to support transmission and distribution planning in locating new or expansion of existing substation facilities, conceptual layout and design of substations and cost estimates for design and construction of substations; actively coordinates project-specific requirements with interdisciplinary engineering team and provides intermediate engineering expertise and guidance to wireman crews and technicians.
