Bioacoustician Consultant (Contract based)
Pineview LabsAbout the role
PineView is an independent data engineering consultancy based in Oslo, Norway. We are building a cloud-based data platform called OceanStream (https://oceanstream.io) which aims to facilitate the collection and analysis of real-time data from sensors and hydroacoustic instrument, including echosounders, multibeam sonar systems, and ADCPs.
We're in search of a Bioacoustician Consultant who can bridge the gap between marine ecology and data science, guiding our data scientists and stakeholders in understanding the complexities of the marine acoustic ecosystem. This role requires a deep understanding of both bioacoustics and hydroacoustics, as these interrelated fields are crucial to our mission.
Your role involves:
- provide expertise in bioacoustics and hydroacoustics, guiding our data scientists in understanding and interpreting hydroacoustic data from various marine organisms and environments.
- assist in shaping the project roadmap, ensuring that our development efforts align with the needs and realities of marine ecology and oceanography.
- act as a liaison between our team and external stakeholders, helping communicate complex bioacoustic and hydroacoustic concepts and findings in a way that's accessible and meaningful.
- contribute to the design and implementation of data processing and analysis methodologies, leveraging open-source tools and Python data science tools.
- collaborate with the team in integrating bioacoustic and hydroacoustic data into our IoT data platform, working closely with software engineers, product owners, and UI/UX designers.
Requirements
- degree in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Acoustics, or a related field.
- extensive experience in bioacoustics and hydroacoustics, with a strong understanding of marine ecology, sound propagation in water, and hydroacoustic data.
- familiarity with Python data science tools.
- excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences.
- experience in a consultancy role is a plus.
Benefits
Join us and contribute to the future of sustainable marine conservation, environmental monitoring, and bioacoustic research. Your work will directly impact the development of our platform and contribute to our mission of advancing marine ecology research. This is an initial 3-6 months contract with the possibility of extension, both full-time / part-time engagements can be considered.
