The Bearcat Promise Career Studio is a team of career development professionals who coach students and recent alumni from 11 academic colleges (College of Allied Health Sciences; College of Arts & Sciences; College-Conservatory of Music; College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning; College of Education, Criminal Justice, & Human Services; College of Engineering & Applied Sciences; Graduate College; College of Medicine; College of Nursing; James L. Winkler College of Pharmacy; and UC Online) through the career development process. This includes helping students reflect on their values, skills and interests, connect with experiential learning opportunities to gain hands-on experience, learn how to attend and finance graduate school, navigate full-time job searches, and explore alt-academic careers.
Job Overview
The Assistant Director provides both individual and group career coaching to students and recent alumni, helping them define their career goals and enhance their job search readiness and professional skills. Furthermore, the Assistant Director develops and delivers workshops and presentations on career and professional development topics, both independently and in collaboration with UC stakeholders.
This position will have a special emphasis on supporting international students, both at the undergraduate and graduate level and across most majors, in finding part-time on-campus student employment and post-graduation opportunities. In 2023, nearly 5,000 international students from 133 countries were enrolled at the University of Cincinnati.
CCPS participates in the University’s alternative work program; hybrid work schedule is negotiable.
Essential Functions
Career Coaching (60%)
- Provide individual and group career coaching to help students and recent alumni define their career goals and improve their job search readiness and professional skills. This includes providing advice on topics such as how to: develop effective resumes, CVs, and cover letters; conduct successful full-time job searches and graduate searches; succeed in graduate school; prepare for interviews; and negotiate salary. As student needs evolve, the focus population of this position may also shift.
- Connect students to resources to support their professional growth (ex. Handshake, LinkedIn, BearcatsConnect, CareerShift, Interstride, Big Interview and more).
- Leverage a strong knowledge of student development and the college student experience to assist the CCPS Partnership Development team in implementing strategies to better connect students with employers, postings, events, and on-campus recruiting activities.
Specialized Presentations/Programming (30%)
- Develop and deliver professional development workshops and/or presentations, both independently and in collaboration with UC stakeholders
- Coordinate with campus partners and relevant student groups to promote workshops and presentations.
Project Work (10%)
- Support Director in the day-to-day operations of the Career Studio as needed.
- Support CCPS in managing career service
