About the role

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Responsible for maintaining and improving the current process control network and related equipment such as PLCs, HMIs and other related control equipment. Coordinates activities of and is a coach for all site process control equipment and programming. Ensures staff engages in appropriate follow-up from all programming activities. The goal is to achieve a high degree of mill safety and reliability.

 

 

description of Essential duties:

 

  • Responsible for all PLC programming in the mill.  Undertakes programming and coaches all other electrical staff who program.
  • Responsible for all documentation of process programs, GML, panel view etc.
  • Works with IT staff, or independently, to create and maintain process control networks.
  • Establishes standard trends for related process variables and oversee the proper functioning of trending packages used by staff.
  • Undertakes process control changes and improvements.
  • Links measuring equipment and process control network.
  • Ability to design and evaluate control loops.
  • Coaches Process Leaders on; optimization, follow up items, technical /process support, annual plan, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Utilizes trending data for troubleshooting process issues.
  • Undertakes process control changes and improvements.
  • Designs and evaluates control loops.  Tunes loops.
  • Maintains discipline to minimize “break-in” work.
  • Ensures milestones or detailed timelines are established and communicated.
  • Ensures planned work is always ready to be easily scheduled as opportunity work.
  • Sets up job boxes and work site as appropriate for work under ownership.
  • Works with Stores to issue rebuilds to outside services as necessary and support receiving process.
  • Works with suppliers and contractors to ensure delivered equipment is correct and contracting is on time.
  • Communicates regularly to all staff on the status of assigned projects (e-mail, crew meetings, functional groups, star point meeting, etc).
  • Communicates changes to equipment and process.
  • Supports during down day & shutdown activities/jobs and start-up support as needed. 
  • Technical resource to the maintenance group on equipment specific knowledge, troubleshooting and problem solving, key vendor and engineering contacts.
  • Coaches operators and others in the electrical group one on one as much as possible.
  • Attend Down Day and shutdown Planning meetings to support the coordination and scheduling of electrical and capital work.
  • Communicate continuously with project leaders to ensure projects are proceeding on schedule and on  budget.
  • Ability to coordinate project tie-ins with up time, downtime.
  • Is a model for teamwork behaviors and living to the culture at Arauco.
  • Participates in weekend on-call responsibilities.

 

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

 

  • Minimum 1 years of PLC programming experience.
  • Diploma or degree in a programming curriculum preferred.
  • HMI programming experience in an industrial environment.
  • CAD experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable operating systems.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Familiar with our maintenance management systems.
  • Experience in wood or paper products manufacturing is an asset.
  • Ability to undertake multiple projects and manage key business metrics.
  • Familiarity of the basic functions of a CMMS system preferred.
  • Strong, demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
  • Have a focus on continuous improvement and an understanding of what drives improved uptime metrics.  Ability to look for improvement opportunities, optimize to increase efficiencies and overall equipment uptime.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong problem solver.
  • Ability to prioritize workload independently and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to work extended hours as required.
