Senior Manager - Mechanical

Job Description

This role involves leading a team of Mechanical Engineers dedicated to designing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Solutions at our India Design Centre (IDC). This role encompasses both functional and personal management aspects, with a focus on fostering high-performing teams, attracting talent, and ensuring continuous development.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead and cultivate a proficient Mechanics Team dedicated to the design and development of VFD Products and Solutions.
• Elevate Organizational Maturity in Mechanics Design & Analysis competencies.
• Oversee all aspects of People Management for the Mechanics Team.
• Train, develop, and motivate team members to achieve performance goals; provide ongoing feedback and performance reviews.
• Ensure efficient resource allocation for project planning and execution.
• Facilitate Knowledge Transfer/Sharing between Global and IDC teams.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineering for seamless product transition from design to manufacturing.
• Ensure top-quality project deliverables through formal project reviews and design approval.
• Oversee life cycle support for all VFD products designed at IDC.
• Develop expertise in Tear-Down, Reverse-Engineering, and Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE).
• Validate effort estimation for various projects using established tools and methods.
• Stay abreast of the latest technological developments, sharing insights with the team and fostering knowledge enhancement.
• Develop and maintain contacts for idea exchange with relevant industry organizations and educational institutions.
• Stay current with competitive products in the marketplace and collaborate with sales organizations to develop product specifications.

Background & Skills

• Graduation inn Mechanical/Engineering design with 14+ years’ work experience in NPD or product engineering
• Strong experience as a people leader with effective evaluation, promotion, coaching, and development skills.
• Good knowledge of Pro/E, PDM link, Bus bars, cables, Sheet metal Technologies, Fasteners, Joining Methods, Electrical Power and Controls Components, Industry Standards, and Safety regulations.
• Very good Knowledge of Panel & Enclosure Design, including Part & Assembly Modelling, BOM, and associated Design Tools.
• Expertise in Design for x, including UL/CE/IEC standards, costs, manufacturability, serviceability, and testability.
• Very good Knowledge of FMEA and Six Sigma.
• Expertise in at least one of the following: Thermal, Structural, Vibration Analysis, and Fluid dynamics (Static, Transient, Coupled field).
• Satisfactory Knowledge of Cabling and Routing inside Panels and associated tools.
• Ability to solve practical problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
• Extensive knowledge of 3D CAD, CFD, and CAE tools and proficient in driving productivity improvements.
