About the role

About Us:

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Divcon delivers fully integrated automation solutions nationwide that optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability across HVAC, lighting, power monitoring, and mission-critical systems. Leveraging advanced technologies - including Allen-Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Delta DDC systems - we combine deep technical expertise with field-tested execution to deliver precise, scalable, and high-performance solutions.

About the role:

The Senior PLC Control Technician is an expert-level, hands-on professional responsible for leading complex commissioning activities, troubleshooting advanced PLC and industrial networking systems, validating PLC/SCADA integration, and mentoring field technicians. This role serves as a primary technical escalation resource for PLC field challenges while supporting high-quality startup, integration, documentation, safety, and system reliability.

The Senior PLC Control Technician demonstrates mastery of PLC systems, industrial communication protocols, processor redundancy, distributed I/O, and SCADA/HMI integration while coordinating technical execution with Lead PLC Technicians, PLC Engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendors.

This position requires regular travel. Per diem, lodging, and travel accommodation are provided in accordance with company policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead commissioning activities for large-scale or technically complex PLC automation projects, ensuring systems operate according to design specifications, project requirements, and approved startup plans.
  • Troubleshoot advanced PLC logic, distributed I/O, field instrumentation, processor/controller issues, electrical faults, network communication issues, and SCADA/HMI integration problems in active operational environments.
  • Configure, test, and validate PLC processor redundancy, failover, high-availability deployments, and related communication architecture where required by project scope.
  • Configure, test, and validate industrial communication protocols, including Modbus/IP, Modbus/UDP, EtherNet/IP, BACnet, MQTT, OPC UA, and project-specific gateway integrations.
  • Integrate PLC systems with SCADA/HMI platforms such as Ignition, FactoryTalk, and similar operator interfaces, ensuring seamless communication, correct point mapping, alarm/trend visibility, and operational functionality.
  • Verify controller programs against design sequences or functional requirements, document discrepancies for engineering resolution, and perform authorized troubleshooting or minor configuration support.
  • Perform or support point-to-point validation, sensor/device verification, panel wiring assessment, field instrumentation checks, commissioning scripts, and issue tracking for PLC-supported systems.
  • Mentor and train PLC Control Technicians by providing technical guidance, reviewing work quality, supporting troubleshooting, and quality-checking documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate redlines, as-built documentation, commissioning reports, QC checklists, startup records, failover test records, and turnover deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Lead PLC Technicians, PLC Engineers, project managers, contractors, vendors, and clients to align technical execution with project objectives, safety expectations, and deliverables.
  • Apply working knowledge of AEC processes and construction documents, including plans, specifications, controls submittals, equipment submittals, RFIs, and submittal processes.

Qualifications:

  • · Minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience with PLC systems in industrial, construction, or building automation environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, with strong working knowledge of Siemens and Schneider Electric systems.
  • Mastery or advanced working knowledge of tools such as Studio 5000, FactoryTalk Linx, RSLinx Classic, RSNetWorx, FactoryTalk Activation Manager, Siemens TIA Portal, or comparable PLC software.
  • Demonstrated expertise configuring and validating PLC processor redundancy systems, distributed I/O, industrial networking, protocol gateways, and high-availability architectures.
  • Ability to read ladder logic fluently and interpret contacts, coils, timers, counters, comparison instructions, tag databases, I/O binding, alarm/trend configuration, and sequence module
