The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to work as VOSH Regional Health Director. Through your actions as a leading member of Virginia’s Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) team, you will help save lives and prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace. This is a full-time position based in Henrico County. Additional information about our agency can be found at www.doli.virginia.gov.
Duties and responsibilities:
As VOSH Regional Health Director, you will plan, direct, manage and evaluate all daily activities of VOSH Health Compliance regional operations and staff, including administrative staff. This position will involve the use of broad industrial hygiene expertise and advanced knowledge of safety & health rules to convey guidance on identifying workplace hazards and implementing solutions for safer workplaces. You will ensure consistent interpretation and application of federal and state laws, regulations, and agency policies and operational procedures; conduct health informal conferences; negotiate settlement agreements with employers; allocate resources and develop budget recommendations; develop and implement training and activities in support of agency mission and strategic plan; identify trends and patterns related to workplace injuries and illnesses; align staffing resources to address critical needs; work with agency leadership to establish objectives, goals, and priorities for the region; and supervise and train health compliance officer apprentices. In this position, you will be establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with VOSH staff, employers, business associations, labor organizations, state and federal agencies and other agency customers.

Minimum Qualifications
• Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational safety and health, safety management systems, and best practice
• Considerable practical experience with occupational safety and health, state, and federal standards
• Considerable knowledge of and experience with policy research, development, implementation, and assessment
• Experience leading professional, clerical, and technical staff
• Ability/experience to plan, organize, implement, and direct a regional program
• Ability/experience to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Proficient experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
Additional Considerations
• Certification in the areas of occupational safety or occupational health management, industrial hygiene, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Certification in a safety or health discipline issued by a recognized organization such as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or the Board for Global EHS Credentialing, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industry Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar
• Considerable progressively responsible experience in the management of large programs, preferably occupational safety and/or health
