JOB SUMMARY:
Obtains specimens, identifying, accessioning and distributing them
within department standards and hospital policies and procedures.
Phlebotomy, clerical and courier functions as assigned. High level of
confidentiality required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

- Collects specimens from patients in a manner that supports the guest
relations policy of the hospital. Using 2 identifiers.
- Identify, accession and distribute samples within department
policy and procedure.
- Prepare samples properly for testing by reference laboratory in
appropriate fashion. (ie: DHL, Airborne, Fedex, US Mail, etc.)
- Provide courier/phlebotomy services to outside accounts utilizing
private or corporate owned vehicle.
- Insures that adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated
volume of testing.
- Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and
all other hospital and department policies and procedures.
- Participates in all mandated inservice programs on an annual basis.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on
quality improvement teams.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
- Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and
Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
- Stocks and cleans work areas as required.
- Performs general clerical duties, including filing, answering
phones, greeting all customers, distributing patient reports.
- Provide courier services as directed by supervisor to outside
accounts, utilizing private or corporate owned vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job. Preferred: Phlebotomy training from a Licensed Program.
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Completion of high school or equivalent (plus certification by ASCP
desirable). Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Three to six months preferred.
