Job Description Summary

The Associate Director and Graduate Writing and STEM Specialist provides academic support services and programs for graduate and professional students with a focus on all facets of academic writing, including the dissertation and capstone/thesis process. The Associate Director also manages programs that address scholarly writing in STEM fields and oversees services and workshops that support STEM learning. This staff member collaborates with faculty and professional staff across graduate schools and programs in addition to key partners in the Graduate Student Center, the Center for Community Standards and Accountability, and the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Innovation to identify and respond to emergent needs in student learning and scholarly production in the context of writing with curricular innovations and academic support interventions. The Associate Director collaborates with the Senior Director to implement ongoing professional development for learning specialists in the areas of academic writing and STEM learning support. This colleague supervises the Weingarten Center Learning Fellows, overseeing their fellowship hours and responsibilities, providing ongoing training and professional development, and coordinating research initiatives that improve academic support programs and services. The Associate Director updates and enhances services and programs through program evaluation and communication with peer institutions, develops online resources to support graduate student writing, and makes those resources accessible through the Weingarten Center website, Canvas, social media, and other relevant platforms.
