About the role:

The Roblox Marketplace is an essential piece of the Roblox experience, supporting the players' metaverse identity and personalization. The marketplace is also an essential opportunity for the community of Roblox creators to display their creativity and skill and earn a living through their creations.

As a Technical Director for the Roblox Marketplace, you will be in charge of establishing systems and tools to empower generations of creators on the platform to create, market, and sell their creations to millions of fellow Robloxians.

Our marketplace represents a fascinating and unique set of capabilities for creators and users that strives to help everyone realize their identity regardless of whether they love customizing their avatar or really just want to be a walking trophy case for the games they love and whether they have money to spend or none at all. We're designing and refining systems that support that vibrant community, and we need someone to blaze those trails with us.

You will:

• Become an expert on our technology stack and make sure we solve problems in the right way.
• Balance researching new technologies with a practical approach to realize the research efforts into the Roblox products.
• Author specs for new features and improvement.
• Lead and mentor engineers by example and through technical direction.
• Collaborate with different teams to improve existing and develop new functionality, pipelines, and workflow.
• Be guided by the company vision to put the Roblox community first and represent the company through thought leadership.

You have:

• Experience defining architecture for millions of users and are excited about technical challenges. You can be hands on and still define an architecture from scratch and make sure it can scale from few users to hundreds of millions. 
• 15+ years of experience in large scale software deployments with a proven track record of leading large teams (20+) and delivering highly performant technical solutions. You have a BS in Computer Science or similar field. An MS or PhD is a definite plus.
• A deep understanding of all the components required to build modern large-scale infrastructure. You can recommend one route versus another and bring a team of engineers to consensus. You also love to pick up new technologies as the landscape evolves.
• Mastered several languages and technologies already; you can easily adapt to any situation when the need arises and come up with the right solution.
• A creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems and driving new tools/functionality for our creators 
• A team-oriented personality that invigorates the team around you and you are used to leading technical teams in any situation.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.  All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.Annual Salary Range$383,910—$440,190 USD
