Our company's Animal Health is increasing R&D field operations for the livestock monitoring technology team in the US. We are looking to hire an individual to assist with data collection at research sites both remotely and in person. Additionally, this person will be trained to install and maintain sensor systems in production livestock environments. Research sites will include commercial locations such as ranches and feedlots, universities, and contract research organizations (CRO).
Current residence or willingness to relocate to Kansas, Nebraska, or Iowa regions (especially near an airport) could be considered a benefit. However, future responsibilities will expand into other regions requiring air travel regardless.
Major Responsibilities:
Attending and guiding research project launches and periodic check-ins at research sites will be required. This job will require ~25-50% travel time, which will likely be seasonal as projects progress.
Additionally, this individual will manage and perform the technical needs of the R&D field operations both by traveling to trial sites across the US for system installations and troubleshooting, and providing remote technical support where applicable. A robust knowledge of resolving technical issues, providing technical support, installing and configuring computer systems, networks, and software will be advantageous. Animal handling can be learned on-the-job.
Minimum education required:
B.S. in animal science or related field, or individuals with a B.S. in computer science or related field who may also have production agriculture experience are encouraged to apply.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum of two years in production agriculture, animal research or IT field.
Precise attention to detail and excellent time management is required
Must be comfortable with traveling independently (by air and road) to commercial livestock operations (e.g., cow-calf ranches, feedlots, swine houses, etc.)
Experience in handling of livestock, or willingness to learn and get dirty
Experience in IT, network management, and general tech troubleshooting, or a willingness to learn
Basic mechanical technical skills (e.g., comfortable using tools to mount hardware)
Valid US driver’s license without restrictions
Excellent written, verbal, and Microsoft Office skills.
Should avoid any conflict-of-interest situations as it might apply to outside dealings with suppliers, vendors, customers, or prospects.
Willingness to abide by all company policy and approval processes when traveling or purchasing company assets.
Experience with herd management software is preferred (e.g., DC 305, CattleMax, etc.)
Experience with conducting research trials preferred
Experience in customer support is a major benefit
