Job Description
Coffman Engineers is seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated Senior Structural Engineer with a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience providing comprehensive civil engineering services, from initial feasibility through design, permitting and construction support for our Bay Area office. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have a desire to work and grow with a multidiscipline engineering team, and be willing to have fun.
Our Bay Area structural team is small and highly collaborative, offering meaningful opportunities for local leadership, mentorship, and career growth. At the same time, the structural team benefits from the depth of expertise, resources, and peer support available across Coffman Engineers’ California offices, providing both local ownership and statewide connectivity.
We are looking for people who work effectively with all personality types, are interested in developing close relationships with our great clients, and who desires to grow professionally and stay involved in the activities and exciting trends in the industry. The position will involve a mix of technical design and consulting, construction support, and new project scoping and proposal writing. Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university, required.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, preferred.
- Minimum of 12+ years of professional experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.), required.
- California Structural Engineer (S.E.) license, preferred.
- Perform and oversee structural analysis, design, and detailing on a variety of commercial and industrial building projects.
- Strong time management skills.
- Collaborate with the architect, owner, and contractor to provide a well-coordinated and high-quality set of structural drawings
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers, designers and drafters to execute structural designs.
- Meet with project teams to ensure effective communication flow during design.
- Interface with the contractor during construction to ensure positive results with minimum complications
- Attend construction site visits and assist in construction administration.
- Manage profitability of projects and maintain a working relationship with clients.
- Participate in business development, including proposal writing and contact negotiations
- Be available to travel to local job sites and client meetings several times per week.
- Be present in the office during the days and hours that are set by the office manager. In-office work is required for this role.
- Experience in a multi-discipline setting preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
