A technology first software development company with high emphasis on building performant services on best practice principles. Sportradar has several large applications dependent on MySQL databases which are critical to day-to-day business operations and revenue generation.
This role is part of a small, but expanding, team of individuals who look after the core databases with a focus on not just maintaining them but also improving them by applying best practices and making increased usage of cloud managed services (AWS) where applicable. Sportradar has an established track record of partnering with AWS to drive improvements throughout our tech stack with various case studies available on Amazon’s website.
THE CHALLENGE:
As part of the central database team you will:
Focus on ensuring operational excellence for the core databases.
Be responsible for capacity planning, patching and general health of the core databases.
Define and implement best practices with regards monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery.
Work with Engineers and Architects to evolve the strategic direction for database platforms within your area, including AWS migration and data componentization.
Engage with peers across Sportradar to promote best practices and ensure that our applications are built according to sound data principles.
YOUR PROFILE:
You will be able to demonstrate many of the following skills, with both an aptitude and willingness to develop along any you may not have today.
Experience in administering MySQL Databases (managed or self-managed, AWS preferable).
Develop and enhance Database Monitoring solutions (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Cloudwatch, Zabbix).
Experience with a scripting language (e.g. bash, python).
Able to determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
Interest in other database technologies, including NoSQL.
Awareness of message queues and event streaming (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka, MQTT).
