About the role

Description


Accurately and efficiently cook meat, fish, vegetables, soups, and other food products. Portioning food and dating food, to avoid food expiring and obtaining freezer burn. Knowledgeable of Department of Health Food Standards for meals at an adult residential treatment center.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Weekly menus must be submitted to the Assistant Program Director for review and approval every Friday.
  • Prepare requisitions and submit them to the Assistant Program Director for the purchase of ordering of food supplies and equipment for kitchen.
  • Must be able to cook three nutritious meals a day.
  • The cook must be able to work from 6:30 am to 2:30 Pm Monday thru Friday.
  • Supervise and train residents in all areas of food preparation.
  • Assist staff in creating and maintaining an orderly, clean, and homelike kitchen and lounge area where meals are served.
  • The cook is required to work in a standard Chef's Uniform (provided by Brownsville Community residential Center).
  • Maintain a log of the temperatures in the refrigerator, freezer, and food warmer as per the standards of the Department of Health and Hygiene.
  • Must accurately measure food to prevent waste.


Requirements

  • High School Diploma and or GED required.
  • Must have qualifications in Food Protection from NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • Food Handlers License 
  • Ability to assist in the purchasing of food, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ability to cook for a diverse population.
  • Ability to understand the dietary needs of the residents.
